Jackson Danger Acoustic Cover: “Althea” The Grateful Dead

The Grateful Dead was a band that was formed in 1965.  They played rock, folk, blues, country and bluegrass music.  The band came along when the Beatles, The Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones were popular.  Singers like John Prine, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan were on the move.

They traveled all over the country performing and had a large group of fans that would follow them from concert to concert.  Those fans became known as the “Deadheads.”

The concerts were never alike because they had so many pieces of music they could play.  They just planned the concert music while they were setting things up.  Some of the songs they played were “Brokedown Palace”, “Deal”, “Looser”, Truckin”, and “That’s it for the Other One.”

I really like the song Althea.  It is an old Grateful Dead classic and was first performed in August of 1979.  Althea is a girl’s name and it means, “The Healer”.  I like the picking order of the guitar.

Jerry Garcia was best known for being the lead guitarist and became known to the fans as the group leader.

Garcia was only 53 years old when he died in 1995.  I was born in 1999.  I wish he had lived so I could have seen the Grateful Dead in concert.

After Jerry Garcia died, the band fell apart.  They no longer play together.  To bad… cause the were so good.
